Welcome to The By-Pass Blog

This blog is my personal experience through gastric bypass surgery. As I prepared for the surgery I had so many questions that I wanted answered. I loved hearing about other peoples experineces but found they often forgot many of the details. I started this for myself to one day look back on. If you read it an enjoy it, I'd love to hear from you. If you are considering having bypass surgery, I completely encourage you to do it.

DOWN 40 POUNDS, BABY!! FORTY!!

Five weeks and two days after having surgery I am down 40 pounds!! My jaw hit the floor when I got on the scale. I had been sick and didn't really eat for a couple days, so I figured I had lost a few more, but I was down 10 pounds from one week prior in the doctor's office. Even for a gastric by-pass patient, ten pounds in one week is a lot. I am also very happy to be down from a size 24 to a size 18. For the first time in YEARS I weigh the same or less than my husband. He's not so thrilled, but I'm extatic!! (He is thrilled that the sex is better, though.)

I think I'm starting to get a little too comfortable with eating smaller meals. In the last 2 days I have experienced "dumping" twice. Todays was exceptioinally difficult. It feels like a wrench tightening under the breast bone trying to tighten a brick while being hit there with a baseball. It hurts. Also, I get the chills, fast breathing and cant decide if I want to throw up or just die. It feels like I need a big drink of water to wash it all down, but thats actually the worst thing I can do. Usually burping helps and everything settles down into the stomach, as sometimes it cant fit in the stomach and is backed up into the esophigus. Thats what's so painful. Today I didn't measure my food and was so miserable I actually threw up in the kitchen sink. Just once, only enough to take the pressure off. Not a habit I'll be getting into. I also ate vegetables with dinner and they seem to not move through as quickly as most other things I eat. Still in the learning curve.
