Welcome to The By-Pass Blog

This blog is my personal experience through gastric bypass surgery. As I prepared for the surgery I had so many questions that I wanted answered. I loved hearing about other peoples experineces but found they often forgot many of the details. I started this for myself to one day look back on. If you read it an enjoy it, I'd love to hear from you. If you are considering having bypass surgery, I completely encourage you to do it.

Eight weeks out

I guess I've been slacking on my blog when one of my friends calls and asks if I'm ok since I havent posted in a while.

I originally thought that the "dumping" process was caused by eating too much sugar and the body cant handle it. While that is one cause if it, it is also caused by eating too much and/or too fast. About 10 days ago I had an episode where I ate some refried beans and for whatever reason they didn't set well with me. I only had a couple bites and was fine for about an hour then felt like my chest was going to explode. It felt like my stomach was pushing the food back up into the esophogus. I couldnt even burp to get the air moving and make room in my stomach for things to settle. I was at the kids school and was walking trying to speed up the digestion process, but my stomach had different ideas. I puked EVERYTHING in my stomach. (Luckily I was about 25 mins early to get the kids so I didn't have a large audience!) My stomach was so sore that for 2-3 days I went back to the liquid and soft food diet. It wasn't until Thursday that I finally felt ok to start eating again. That was 10 days ago and I havn't had a dumping episode since.

I was so excited to hit the 40 pounds lost point but since then my I've been kind of stuck. I have noticed small things though....my wrists look smaller, my fingers look thinner and sometimes when I look in the mirror I just stand there and stare. My face is thinner, but I'm also noticing more wrinkles. I think that when I was heavier they were less noticible because they were full of fat. People who don't know that I had surgery are starting to comment about loosing wieght. I think its time to up the exercie...I've been doing execrise bike and some weights but I'm thinking about trying a spin class. I'll keep you posted....
