Welcome to The By-Pass Blog

This blog is my personal experience through gastric bypass surgery. As I prepared for the surgery I had so many questions that I wanted answered. I loved hearing about other peoples experineces but found they often forgot many of the details. I started this for myself to one day look back on. If you read it an enjoy it, I'd love to hear from you. If you are considering having bypass surgery, I completely encourage you to do it.

So Much To Tell...

First: Today I sat through all of church with my legs crossed and wasn't in pain or have to hold one knee over the other one! ITS BEEN YEARS!! It felt so good.

Next: On Thursday April 29th I had my one month follow-up appt. I have lost 30 pounds and 13 inches. The breakdown goes like this: Hips -3 inches, Waist -4 inches, bust -2 inches and one inch off each arm and one inch off each thigh. He modified my menu too. I can now eat chicken, turkey, fish, shrimp and all fruits and vegetables (except grapes). Items off limits are beef and pork, rice, bread, pasta and crackers. Have to admit- I've never been so excited to eat 2 ounces of salad with light dressing in my life except that I couldn't physically start eating it until today, Sunday.

Last: Strep Throat. Wednesday and Thursday were spent flat on my back with a killer sore throat. Finally on Friday the white spots appeared on the back of my throat and I got some medication for it. So, how do you get a prescription size pill through the opening going into the stomach that is the size of a dime? I ground it up and put it in some applesauce, but it tasted nasty. The next time I chopped it into 4 pieces and just did one per bit of applesauce. Then I got really brave. I chopped it into 4 pieces and drank them one by one with water. I'm not so sure why this freaked me out since I swallow a prilosec everyday. This was just different. Now I'm cutting them in half and swallowing them in two gulps.

I was feeling like crap during my doctor's appointment and actually threw up in the car on the way home. I hadn't eaten anything on Wed. or Thurs. and had resorted back to the liquid only diet just to stay hydrated. Friday was the same but I did manage to down a couple sugar-free fudgesicles. Even those didn't taste good. Saturday was more drinking but I did sip a protein shake and drank lots of water. Saturday night I had one bite (baby spoon size bite) of chicken. It tasted really good, but I just wasn't hungry. Finally today, Sunday I was able to eat more chicken on two different occasions and am feeling pretty much human again.

Tomorrow is 5 weeks post surgery date and I want to post another update pix of the back fat. I better charge the camera battery.
