Welcome to The By-Pass Blog

This blog is my personal experience through gastric bypass surgery. As I prepared for the surgery I had so many questions that I wanted answered. I loved hearing about other peoples experineces but found they often forgot many of the details. I started this for myself to one day look back on. If you read it an enjoy it, I'd love to hear from you. If you are considering having bypass surgery, I completely encourage you to do it.

Three Weeks Out

Monday was three weeks since surgery and I am down 24 pounds. Soft foods are going well, but I'm getting bored. I have cooked salmon several times thinking that I'll eat that for several meals but my kids keep eating it before I can get to it.I eat a lot of string cheese and mashed potatoes. I have noticed that I do better when I drink water from a bottle than a cup. I think I gulp too much and try to chug it. Old habits die hard.

I'm going out on a limb and posting before pictures and current pictures. I have to admit it really grosses me out to look at these. I knew I was big, I just didn't realize HOW big. There is some change in my back, but I am also noticing it through my hips and lower abdomen. Some people have noticed my face is thinner, but its mostly my close friends who know that I had surgery. The top picture was on Monday, April 19th. The bottom picture was taken the night before going in for the surgery (March 29th). I think the next 25 pounds will make a huge difference.

  1. Good job Punk! I liked the post about changing the addictive behavior of eating for cleaning and exercising. I'm working on that one too =). Keep up the good work!
