For the first time in over a week I ate something today that wasn't in liquid form!! String cheese....yummy! I really have to focus on chewing to the point that its in a liquid form, but it was chewing and it felt great. I didn't have any problems with it staying down or dumping...so far so good. Dumping is something that can happen after surgery when you eat something that has more sugar in it than your body can handle. The "by-pass" part of the surgery is where they by-pass part of the small intestine and attach the newly formed stomach further down on the intestine. When certain foods are introduced into the body sometimes the body isn't sure how to process it and can cause cramping, cold sweats, rapid pulse and general discomfort. This is dumping. It usually passes in about 20 minutes. Fortunately I haven't experienced this yet.
Yesterday I resumed my driving privledges. Evan wanted me to wait until I had my follow up with Dr. Suh on Thursday, but the kids are out of school on spring break and not driving is not an option. The seatbelt over my shoulder went across a couple of the incision points and that was a little tender. The incision the closest to my belly button looks like its getting slightly infected and I will be calling the doctors office in the morning. Rather be safe than sorry.
